As most of you know Nancy enjoys racing local 5Ks and has a vast background in Cross Country inspired by her Dad's exceptional running accomplishments and he was her mentor/coach since her youth. I thought using our blog we can keep you up to date on her performances year-to-year if you are interested.

A little background, Nancy competed at the collegiate level in Cross Country at Chico State University. Afterwards, she went to Texas Tech University for her Master's Degree and ran recreationally. Then in 2011, we decided to open our gym and running went on the back burner. In November 2023, I mentioned I'd like to start running for enjoyment and cardiovascular health.

Well I'm pleased to report that I helped unleash Nancy's inner-runner-self again and she has become an unbelievably strong runner once again!

My running journey flopped like a wet tortilla. I think God may have left out the running gene. I found myself enormously overtrained and my efforts in the gym suffered. Plus, I got too damn skinny!

In case you're worried about me, I still take care of my cardiovascular health by doing plenty of brisk walking and jump rope intervals. I should not fail to mention that lifting weights intensely works the ole ticker in a major way. As an added bonus, I get to watch Nancy compete versus watching her run off instantly at the start of a 5K race.

After finishing 2024, she had a short bout with achilles tendonitis, however, she did the smart thing and backed off her training and allowed it to fully recover. She also identified the area of her training that needed to be adjusted to prevent it from re-occuring. She's been all-systems-go since and improving more and more over time running pain free.

KEY LESSON: Allow ample recovery to help your body to heal fully. Then identify where you can make adjustments in your strength & endurance program design, injury preventive measures, and have properly fitted running shoes. These steps will help to nix the problem and put it in the rearview mirror for good.

I'm happy to report that Nancy had excellent results in all of her 2025 races. Being a minimalist at heart the "Trophy Clutter" in our office may need to be addressed down the road.

Thank you for reading! Until next time!

Beau
